Ultrasound
Exam.
A real-time sound wave imaging technology used to examine and treat soft tissue such as ligaments, muscles, and nerves. It's radiation-free and safe for repeated use.
What Is Ultrasound? How It Works

Ultrasound refers to sound waves above the range of human hearing (20Hz–20,000Hz). In medicine, high frequencies of 1MHz–30MHz are used to image the inside of the body, with gel applied between the skin and probe to block out air.
Applying an electric current to a 'piezoelectric crystal' inside the probe generates vibration, sending ultrasound waves into the body
The waves bounce back (echo) after hitting internal organs and tissue. The degree and timing of reflection vary with tissue density and condition
The probe receives the returning signal and sends it to a computer, which converts it into a real-time image on screen
