Patient Rights
Right to Receive Care
Patients have the right to appropriate healthcare services to protect and improve their health, without discrimination based on gender, age, disability, religion, beliefs, status, or financial circumstances. Healthcare providers may not refuse care without a valid reason.
Right to Information and Self-Determination
Patients have the right to receive a full explanation from their doctor or nurse about their condition, treatment options, whether they are part of medical research, organ transplant status, expected outcomes including side effects, and treatment costs — and to ask questions and decide whether to give consent.
Right to Confidentiality
Patients' physical, health-related, and personal information may not be disclosed without consent. Healthcare providers and institutions may not release confidential information except with the patient's consent or as required by law, such as a criminal investigation.
Right to Request Counseling or Mediation
Patients may raise complaints or concerns within the clinic, and in the event of a dispute over medical services, may request counseling or mediation from the Korea Consumer Agency or the Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency.
